pcwiz Leopard vmware: Installed Iphone SDK

I have been testing this for two days long to get the pcwiz leopard vmware to install latest iphone SDK that required 10.5.5 update without any hope until today.

Now, i don't claim any credits from the methods provided here. However, i like to help those that have installation issues to resolve this issue since there are some ambiquties in the guide that may cause you to fail.

Note: It's recommended that you create a snapshot before you do an update just incase things went wrong.

Quote from pcwizcomputer.com forum:

After getting VMware 6.5 to run the pcwiz 10.5.2 image here is what worked for me:
1. Download Mac OS X 10.5.5 Update dmg.

Note: this is not the combo update, it's a standalone. if you are unsure, follow the link that is provided here.
2. Download Pacifist 2.5.2 dmg.
3. Mount the Pacifist in your OS X VM and install.
4. Mount the Mac OS X 10.5.5 Update MacOSXUpd10.5.5.dmg, the mounted drive will contain a pkg file.
5. Use Pacifist to open the Mac OS X 10.5.5 Update pkg.
6. *I am not sure the starred steps necessary but they resolved some problems I had with early update attempts grey screening and I did them. It seems to disable some power management that mess up or something is my guess.
*Open Terminal
*type: “sudo –s” and press enter. Note do not type the quote marks just what is between them.
*enter the password for super user, which is “pcwiz” if you have not changed it
* type: “while sleep 1;” press enter.
* type: “do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done” press enter.

7. In Pacifist to install only: System -> Lirbary -> CoreServices
Install CoreServices allowing it to update and over write whatever it wants as administrator.
Go back to your terminal and press ctrl key and the C key to end the script

Open "About this Mac" and it should now display Version 10.5.5!
8. Download the iPhone SDK dmg.

9. Install iphone SDK.

Voila.. this should install the iphone SDK just fine for you .. !! have fun developing application on it. Thanks pcwiz for creating this image.

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this. Totally solved my problem. I did how ever run into an issue the second time I did it with my Dock not being visible, so I thought I would share what I found. For me I had to use the same procedure you document for applying the update for the System/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.Framework/Versions/A/Frameworks in addition to the CoreServices. After doing this I got my Dock back and everything seems to be all good.

Thanks Again

I am new to Mac OS X and having a tough time following your procedure. I am running VMWare on Vista and I have the Mac 10.5.2 running inside VMWare. So, I downloaded both .dmg files on my vista machine. Now I am lost that how should I mount them to VMWare so that Mac can read them. I googled for this but didn't come up with any good links. So, any of you, who followed these steps and able to update the OS X, please help me out on it. Thanks

Hi there, one way to mount the DMG file to the VMWARE is to packed them in ISO (you may want to look for ISO maker) or Alternatively, you may just set up a share folder and copy them to your PC.

Hi Elnoxie,

What version of the SDK did you use for this?

The reason I ask is this:
I was trying another ready 10.5.5 image (Xenabo), but after the instalation of the latest SDK (2.2.1) xcode doesn't work (other apps from the sdk work)

I want to try what you did, but before that I want to try installing earlier version of the iphone SDK.

(Of course if you have some other idea, please advice)

Hi.

When I try to install this update I get "you cannot install mac os x update on this volume" error.

I changed my disk to SCSI... for better performance...

Can that be the problem? Or what is it?

Elnoxvie said...

hi mz3300, i believe it has nothing to do with the harddisk. Maybe you can post your procedures here and i will take a look at them.

Hi atanas, i was using 2.2 SDK. I believe it will work with the 2.2.1 too. I never try to update it nowadays but you may post your procedures here and i will take a look at them. And sorry for late replying. I am kind of busy with works.

Right now, i am totaly indulged in my hackintosh .. hehe..

hi!
Someone knows if it works with SDK 2.2.1?

thanks

Althought the SDK installs without errors (10.5.5 kernel)when you try to fire iup xcode it crashes everytime. Until a solution is found for this, there is no need to try...

will the same method use for further updates, as in 10.5.7 ???

thank you, it worked perfectly for 10.5.5 =D

Hi, thanks for posting this!

Running into the same issue with xCode crashing after installing 2.2.1. Everything else seems to be running fine .. not much space left on the image though, lol.

I'll revery back and install 2.2.0 and let you know if I can get xCode running.

:) have you tried taking it from 10.5.5 to 10.5.7 ?

Hello,
I'm having issues updating to 10.5.5
I get to a point when VMWARE gives me error "The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system. You will need to power off or reset the virtual machine at this point." followed by the following MAC error "you need to restart your computer.hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart button"
I'm a newbie to the mac world by the way.

Abel: did you use the combo package?
Try follow the instruction step by step.
Zee: no, i haven't and it won't work using these steps. There are some steps from hackintosh to take from 10.5.5 to 10.5.7. It might work.

The update to 10.5.7 will not be working using these steps but if you wish to try, please take a snapshot beforehand.
